DVI-to-ADC converter box from Gefen

Gefen, Inc.'s ex·tend·it DVI-to-ADC converter box extends any ADC (Apple Display Connector) device up to 18 feet away using a DVI cable for extension, allowing older DVI-based G4 machines to connect to newer ADC-based Apple monitors. The converter is expected to ship in 6 weeks, according to the Website (pricing not available). It requires a $50 ADC-to-DVI Adaptor (M-F) when used to extend ADC-equipped Macs. (Belkin recently confirmed that it was working on a VGA-ADC adapter and was gauging interest in a DVI-ADC adapter as well).

    don't you lose power?

If you use a DVI cable to extend an ADC monitor, don't you lose the integrated power and usb? Since I'm not familiar with the physical connectors, I'm wondering if there is a way to do a hard-run (separate cable) for the USB...and is there even a power input on the monitor itself?

    dual monitors?

Does this mean we can use dual monitors if we get a second card with DVI - like the voodoo 4 or 5?

    VGA - DVI?

Has anyone seen this - allowing VGA Macs (inc PB Ti) to use the numerous DVI digital monitors...

MARGI's Display-to-Go ties up the PCMCIA port & was incompatible with OS 9.04 ...

    Thanks

    Power

An adapter like this would have an ADC connector like the current macs have (female) at one end and at the other end a DVI and USB connector (male) that would plug into the computer. Somewhere in the middle would be a female socket for a power brick that would supply the 28v to drive the monitor's electronics. According to the German company that is also working on such a solution - the power brick will be the most expensive part. (perhaps Belkin's economy of scale will offset this factor) The Apple replacement brick for the original Cinema Display is 89.00 by the way... I for one would love to get an ADC to DVI connector at a reasonable price. (personally I would prefer Apple drop ADC in favor of DVI again - but I guess that won't be happening anytime soon... alas)

    DVI to VGA?

I'd love to see a DVI to VGA adaptor. It would be great to be able to connect an Apple Cinema Display or the 15" LCD monitor to a PowerBook.

The only question is if the PB videocard can support full-screen display on the 22" Cinema Display?

    would like to get

an (universal) adapter(box) ADC (male) - VGA (female), DVI (female), USB, power to have more possibilities on my G4/400. (ie. to connect my old b/w flatscreen without external power supply and to get one more usb port) ;) - i have found a table of the ADC pins - but can not handle it :( (reiner.s@netartefact.de)

    Yes please, but…

To connect a ADC monitor to my Pismo would be great, but… I would like something bigger than the 15' flat, smaller than the 17" CRT and less expensive than the Cinema display: Apple, where is your 18" Cinema display!!!
    Also for thought:
now that the PB Ti is widescreen and the 15" flat has dropped in price, are we going to very soon see an update to the PB format for the 15"?
    Would make sense…

    18" buy SGI flatpanel

It's reasonable and great, and get it with the multilink adapter.

    Older DVI G4

If you have an older DVI G4 you don't have and ADC connector on the computer anyway. Initially this would be for people with DVI systems and DVI monitors. If you wanted to use it on a system with an ADC connector and an ADC monitor, then you would lose the additional capabilities of the ADC port when you run it through the ADC to DVI interposer.
