Apple has begun bundling videos with some of the music albums available via the iTunes Music Store, following the is available for $0.99, as noted by MacRumors. Readers note that the videos do not contain DRM restrictions, as they were able to transfer them to non-authorized computers for playback; the videos do not transfer automatically to the iPod.

I think what Apple is doing is letting you buy the right to download the actual video for certain songs. I suspect the free videos will still be there to entice you to buy songs from artists you never heard of.

Videos! That's so retro 1980s! Do people actually watch videos anymore (more importantly, is there anyplace that plays videos anymore, well, besides iTMS). I remember some network named MTV, but they switched their format like 10 years ago to showing the Real World 24 hours a day.
But not one to jump on board the "Let's get 4.8 now!" bandwagon, esp since the "Let's get Tiger installed now!" bandwagon got a few flat tires, one overcooked radiator, and a ticket for driving the wrong way on a one way street, but does the above news blurb imply that videos can be downloaded free, as an incentive to buy the music, but some cost money? Or is it that you can play a bunch, but if you want to download any (any they'll let you, at least), it'll cost you money?

Why, exactly, would they transfer automatically to the iPod. You can't use them directly, and they'd only take up precious space.
But if I pay for the video, Is iTunes software capable of extracting the song for d/l to the iPod?
I think that they're 'playing' with the video format and promoting it (off the ITMS home page anyways) to see how it effects their systems, and will offer more and more as time goes on as the bandwidth will affect their servers in a big way ... It seems performance on the site this morning is 'sluggish' and it's the first time I've seen rebuffering for even listening to music...
What ... in a year or 2 we'll be downloading the Incredibles with QT7's new codec???

I kind of look at it as closing the gap between CD's that are enhanced.
Now if someone is hesitant to get a downloadable album because they'll miss out on any videos included on the actual CD, this might sway them to hit the "Buy Album" button....

I cannot see what is so strange about this. Extra material has been on CD:s for years (videos, extra songs, games, younameit...). Videos have been used to market music since the beginning of time. There is no reason for why iTMS could provide these things as well, even posters and booklets could be included as pdf:s. This is obviously a feature that Apple is intricuding quietly but soon we will probably see more of it. We can probably expect full-featured Hollywood movies at some point too. I am all for it.
bubble, but anyone can download iGetMovies from VersionTracker or MacUpdate and save their movies from the free section of iTunes. I used to buy those music video VHS's from music stores when I was a kid/teenager, but I don't know if I would do it now.
Why grumble at this??? One click and you get some videos... its not costing you anything and you are getting some bonus content. I might not buy a song because of this, but I'll enjoy watching it. Think of it as on-demand MTV (back when they played videos MTV).
