Macs: better ease-of-use, security, bundled apps

Mossberg praises Macs

Technology guru Walter Mossberg says that security issues are plagueing Windows-Based PCs, impairing their ease-of-use, but : "To be fair, Microsoft has made some contributions to ease of use in the past couple of years. ...But the company's dominant Internet Explorer Web browser has fallen way behind smaller rivals in features and functionality. Its free Outlook Express e-mail program hasn't had a major upgrade in years. And it won't have an all-new version of Windows until 2006. Meanwhile, the company's historic rival, Apple Computer, has been making giant strides in ease of use. The Macintosh, with its OS X operating system, is rock solid. It is elegant, and -- when you do a feature-by-feature price comparison with Windows competitors -- it's surprisingly affordable."

The article continues: "The Mac is also packed with extras that Windows lacks. It has a suite of easy, free, multimedia programs that can't be matched on Windows at any price. It has a better free browser and e-mail program than Windows. It can read and create PDF files without requiring the purchase of any extra software."

But then Dvorak will find some reason to bash Apple and say they are DOOMED and going out of business. Long live OS X

He's a guru because he likes OS X. If he didn't, he'd be a opinionated, ignorant, hateful, overweight Mac-basher (odd, that's how people describe Dvorak!)

People describe Dvorak that way because he doesn't know what he's talking about. Even when Mossberg criticizes Mac OS X he knows what he's talking about and his criticisms are based in the real world. Dvorak just spouts fantasy MS FUD.

And that's why WSJ didn't hire Dvorak.

Dvorak is a fool

Dvorak honestly doesn't know what he's talking about. Mossberg does. Dvorak is an idiot!

Yea, you can't get on Walter Mossberg simply because he's an old-school journalist. You remember that dying breed, right? The ones who knew what they were talking about and conducted research about things they didn't to make sure their articles were accurate. Something about journalistic integrity or something like that. Don't you remember a time when news was news and not sensationalized BS in an apparent attempt to get reader hits? You know: the opposite of Dvorak?

Anyhoo, good on Mossberg. It's refreshing to read his articles when the world is full of Dvoraks (though even Dvorak seems to out-do himself at times!).
