Or 28%, or 8%, or even . . .
I just hope Apple doesn't market themselves out of this advantage with price or refusal to add features people want.

What features would those be?
I just had a lengthy discussion with a colleague of mine who say that the reason he doesn't own an iPod is because he can't record CD quality audio (16 bit / 44.1 kHz) audio with it. Others say they wish it had a radio. I personally want either Bluetooth or WiFi (or both) to stream music directly from my iPod to my stereo via Airport Express.

Apple has had more than 82% market share in the Macintosh and compatible computer market for quite a while now!!
Seriously, this is really great news for Apple. I too hope that they can get the recording capability up to 16bit/44.1kHz. I've spoken with a Griffin engineer who told me that they would love to improve their iTalk device but can't due to limitations on the iPod end. I can't see why the processor couldn't handle it. It can play back AIFF at that quality. There isn't any compression so it should be able to record at that quality too. Who knows? I'll bet that if Apple do introduce it though, I'll have to replace my iPod to get it.

Radio is overrated. I have everything I want to listen to on my iPod save the neverending commercials that radio seem to play most of the time these days. Yeap. 20 gigs worth of music make me miss listening to the radio alright.

Keep It Simple
Most people like the iPod because it does exactly what is should do in a very easy and user friendly way.
Adding features that only 2% of the users would ever use is silly.

I agree keep the "built in" features simple, extend battery life, BUT don't hamstring 3rd parties from making add ons in any area the HARDWARE is capeable of! I was all set to buy iFM from Griffin that would have given me FM radio to my iPod, but some policy or decision at Apple prevented them from releasing it. f*** you Jobs, if I want a Gdamned radio with my iPod, you shouldn't stop me! And CD quality recording with iTalk...no hardware based limitations exist, Apple is simply preventing it. If they worked WITH 3rd parties to ENCOURAGE other capeabilities instead of stopping them because it doesn't fit the Jobs vision, then the obstacles preventing some buyers from buying would be removed and other players could not easily brag abilities iPods don't and never will have.
