Afternoon tech news: Miramax Pictures is experimenting with movies on demand over the Internet by making "Guinevere" film available for download in a pay-per-view scheme; Student lunch purchases using a fingerprint scanner are causing concern among privacy groups; and Swedish airline SAS will test a wireless Internet system that runs on-board aircraft.

Seems like the sight&sound download doesn't allow for the program to start until the entire show is downloaded. This is a fatal flaw. It seems like the advantage of QT is that you could begin to download the file and after a certain amount of time begin to watch it without having to wait for the whole thing to download.
The fact that it is only 500 megs for a 90 minute movie suggests that with QT at a comperable compression rate, you could be begin watching as soon as you clicked on it assuming that your DSL or Cable could pull 150 k/sec (1200 m/bits) as a connection that fast could download the 90 minute movie in slightly more than 60 minutes.
The other problem is $3.45 for Gueniverre. For that piece of cr*p, they should pay me $3.45 to watch it. ;)
