Digital Performer 3.0 unveiled at NAMM

updated 10:35 am EST, Thu January 25, 2001

MOTU last week unveiled Digital Performer 3.0 (DP3), a major upgrade to its audio workstation and MIDI sequencer software. DP3 includes a redesigned user interface, surround production features for all current surround formats (including 10.2), a new Sequence Editor window for single-timeline editing of MIDI and audio, fifteen new plug-ins, and an enhanced QuickScribe notation engine. It is expected to ship during Q2, 2001 for $800 (with unspecified cross-grades and upgrade paths).

    awesome!

This is great! Digital Performer 2.72 is already an incredible tool, and it looks like they are addressing just about all the rough spots like controller editing, viewing multiple tracks in the same window, multi-processor support, etc.

It's so refreshing to see an update fueled by user-driven features, rather than marketing hype. Way to go MOTU, I can't wait to upgrade!

The 828 FireWire interface looks awesome too....mmm the G4 Cube all of a sudden looks rather attractive...

    The Rich get richer....

As a composer and audio engineer, I work in Digital Performer every day, and I can't wait to get my hands on these features !!!
I am very glad MOTU will support multi-processors, surround sound, and Alti-Vec..but I just learned that DP will FINALLY become Rocket Powered ! With Pro-Tools import-export more refined in DP3, my internet studio will soon be a reality through Rocket Networks.
Now I can truely say Digital Performer is the best alternative to Pro-Tools. And I agree, thanks for listening and making the changes we want, MOTU.
By the way, if the cube looks good with the 828... the Titanium PB must whip you into a frenzy !!!

    Thinking about upgrading

I'm a Deck user (multitrack audio only, no MIDI) but I'm frustrated with the lack of real updates from BIAS. Does anyone have any comments on using Digital Performer as an straight audio only app (again, I don't need the MIDI features)?

    Thanks!

    RE: Thinking about upgrad

Sure, I use DP all the time for audio only projects. Works like a charm. But if you want to save some money and are considering buying an audio interface of some kind, purchase a MOTU audio interface and you'll get a free copy of AudioDesk which if basically just DP minus the MIDI editing features.

    OS X ???

Looking at the pictures of DP3 on the back of various magz, looks like MOTU's taking advantage of the Aqua interface. Anyone know if they're making a full-fledged Cocoa version for OS X?
