iTunes reviews by Business Week, MP3.com

BusinessWeek online has a very complimentary article about iTunes, calling it the "Best of Show." "Where iTunes excels is in look and ease of use. Its brushed metal motif, identical to sister programs Sherlock and QuickTime, is elegant and simple to navigate. And iTunes is by far the easiest software-music player to use." MP3.com's review of iTunes says that it "is a visually pleasing program that's not as easy to use as Apple claims, but is pretty darned good anyway."

remember, this is the same jackass who referred to jobs as "a black-shirted apple presenter"; who says mac os x will be apple's biggest failure; and who simply cannot comprehend that apple's future is never in the peril others continually place it. and now he's all over iTunes like he works for apple PR. what's his deal?

    BW says something nice?

BW must be up to something. Oh who cares, I have stopped listen to or caring what BW says. I have lost all respect for them.

    Haddad also..

Haddad also wrote a letter of apology to those of us who replied directly to his e-mail address saying he is an Apple fan, and has always been. Of course his editors may not always let him say what he wants to say. You can never judge a book by its cover.

i read that haddad article too and emailed him with a few points of interest concerning his journalistic integrity and/or intelligence. but in defense, his reference to "black shirted presenter" could have referred to any of the apple employees doing demos of software at MWSF. he did mention Jobs later in the article, so obviously he at least knows who he is.

    Still pulls some boners

"Check out the rest of the program yourself by downloading it from Apple's Web site. Or Apple may have e-mailed it to you already. The company distributed a free copy to anyone with an account at iTools, Apple's online e-mail and storage service."

Emailed it to you already? Good to see he has a firm grasp of the iTools concept : )

    Re: MP3.com

I guess they had hangups because they are not used to doing things logically on their PeeCees?

There are a few times when iTunes seem to be counter-intuitive like when you first insert a CD and click on Import and it goes ahead and turns the ENTIRE CD into MP3s. You have to be careful with that, otherwise its fine. My wife yelled at me when she first did that, after I showed her that those blue checkboxes MEAN SOMETHING she had no other problems.

    iTunes ain't all that ..

... but you can't argue with the price. And of course, by the time iTunes 2 rolls around it will be all that AND a bag of crisps.

As for Haddad, a couple of things are pretty obvious from this week's column:

    1. His bosses ordered him to write a puff piece to appease the Mac audience. His "article" is just a light rewrite of the press release from Apple.

    2. He still doesn't have a clue.

    Am I missing something?

I have just downloaded MacAmp 2.0 from the net. Very nice but not as intuitive as iTunes. What gets me is that MacAmp has a very nice equalizer feature that iTunes lack. iTunes has an equalizer display but no way to adjust it at least to my knowledge. Soundjam and others have "skins" which neither have.

I guess my question is are we still at the infancy of mp3 computer players and no one has figured to put a player together will ALL the features that a user may want?

All these programs have great features, but it is not that iTunes does this better than MacAmp, while SoundJam does this better than iTunes. Rather it seems to be: if you want this feature you have to get this program. The more features the more programs.

    Hmmmm.

Well, have a great day everyone.

    Skins etc

No way will skins appear in iTunes. It will always need to look Aqua. The Equalizer facility would be great, but much more useful would be a facility to vary the time gap between songs so a live album actualy sounds live! Also to be able to cross fade tracks for a DJ mix

agreed! or in my case, so that a DJ's mixed CD doesn't have gaps in the middle of the mixes! there are very few MP3 players that do this properly.

Also to be able to cross fade tracks for a DJ mix

i think this is an absolutely stupid feature and i don't understand why people want it so badly. i understand (perhaps) wanting to have an "auto-mix" where you can put all your MP3s on while having guests over and make the music flow together sligtly better. but why would you want to "DJ mix" with MP3s? it's stupid! perhaps i just take this opinion because i'm a real DJ who uses vinyl to mix. it just seems useless, difficult and counter-intuitive to "mix" on a computer.

at any rate, i think iTools is great for what it does, and i run both iTools and Audion on my Mac at home.
