Sprint certifies Xserve
Sprint and Apple jointly announced today that Apple's Xserve G5 and QuickTime software have been certified as mobile multimedia delivery platforms for Sprint's new . The technology enables professional content service providers to deliver streaming audio and video clips to Sprint customers using recently announced Sprint Vision Multimedia Services. "We are excited to certify Apple's world-class mobile multimedia platform and make it available to our professional content providers," Sprint said in a statement.

This really is good news. Now Apple in involved with ATT, Verizon and Sprint for this same type of service. I am not sure how "Telecoms" think and spend on IT, but maybe if you get your foot in the door like this example, they might see the benefits and use Xserves and the MacOS in more areas? I would hope so.... thanks.

Sun is basically living on the telco market. If Apple can get its foot in the door using with a multi-media certification, then they can get exposure to the IT types that specify telco servers. This gains them the opportunity for selling the more traditional servers in that hot server market.

Apple, it seems, will not want to creat a hand held video view... if the phone's will eventually take care of this... they will be in control of the software / content share of it... or have a strong hold on that when all hand held devices merge into a single one (5 to 10 years from now).
