Radeon PCI driver update this week

updated 05:35 pm EST, Tue January 23, 2001

A 3D engineer at ATI Technologies told Accelerate Your Mac today that he expects a driver update for the PCI Radeon will be released this week which will fix widely reported problems with the graphics card. Most notably, many users report incompatibility with Quake III: Arena and games which use the Quake III engine such as Heavy Metal: FAKK2 and Star Trek: Voyager - Elite Force.

    whew!

I was about to get this card until I heard about the incompatibilities and that ATi released it! lol But it looks like they're actually working their asses off on drivers... I guess I'll end up getting a Radeon after all... well, maybe after they introduce FSAA....

Documentation notes that the Radeon already has Full Screen Anti-Aliasing. The drivers, however, prevent it from being used. Maybe it'll be fixed with these new drivers.

Oh, and BTW, the Radeon rocks! Getting 60 fps in UT at 1024x768 and 100+ FPS in Myth II.
