Power Mac G5 delays

Several MacNN readers report that orders for their Power Mac G5 Dual-2.5GHz systems have been delayed. Delays reportedly stretch back to those who ordered their systems on the day they were announced. "The demand for this item has been incredible. We are shipping them as quickly as possible, but cannot meet the ship date we previously estimated for you. We now expect to ship your Power Mac on or before August 20th," the note from Apple reads. Orders had originally been slated to ship by the end of the July. Apple also tells customers in the email to "please rest assured that we fulfill all orders in the order they are received."

Not really news...

Apple was clear about this during the 3rd quarter finical press conference a few weeks ago and in related press releases (the one outlining the iMac G5). Apple stated that PowerMac G5 2.5GHz systems would begin shipped near when expected but that because of low volume of CPUs from IBM that supplies would be constrained initially. The outlined that by Sept. they expected IBM to be supplying at capacity. They expect supply of the 1.8Ghg & 2.0Ghz system to be slightly affect as well during this time frame but not to the extent of the 2.5GHz systems.

I got that bull e-mail that said "please rest assured that we fulfill all orders in the order they are received" when I didn't get my Airport Express as originally promised. Didn't think it was so bad until I saw them at CompUSA before mine was shipped. Was pretty pissed that someone off the street could get one before the one I pre-ordered months before got shipped.

How do you know CompUSA didn't put their order in before yours? Money is money isn't it? If a vendor puts their order in first, why shouldn't they get it first?

No Surprise

Why do people act like they're surprised every time this happens? If you want a Dual G5 and you absolutely have to have it today, you can always go to your local dealer and get a Dual 1.8 or 2.0 right now. Otherwise just deal with the fact that there are always going to be delays like this for those on the bleeding edge. Obviously switching from Moto to IBM (although it was the right move) hasn't helped the supply issue one bit.

Damn you apple!

Apple should not announjce or promise products until they have 100,000 in inventory ready to be sent out. In fact, they shouldn't even tell people what they're working on for the future until its ready to be in our hands, otherwise they're just leaving their loyal customers wanting.

As for the loser complaining about not getting his AE before compusa, you're probably one of those people who also complain when Apple delivers their products to their own people before sending any to the resellers. Resellers have their waiting lists and pre-orders just like Apple. Why should Apple's customers get all the first dibs. That just puts the resellers in the backseat. (Then again, this is to someone who ordered a product before even the first objective review or critique of the thing, so who knows what you expect)

Oh, and I'm sure that petition is going to make Apple change their tactics (as I'm sure almost all other online petitions have worked as well).

"Apple should not announjce or promise products until they have 100,000 in inventory ready to be sent out."

Do you remember the iPod Mini? They only had 100,000 of those ready to ship. I waited 6 weeks to get my girlfriend's.

And the iPod mini was not the first machine to be delayed. G5 duals were delayed when they first came out. Geesh. And how is the G5 iMac delayed? They haven't even announced that yet.

Maybe people should just accept and see that Apple makes these amazing products that "everyone" wants so bad that there are backorders every time. Remember Tickle-Me-Elmo?

Have some patience, you've lived your lives to this point without it, what's another few weeks. I could understand if your liver was delayed.

Expect delays for new popular products. When G5 iMacs finally ship, expect delays. When 2G minipods ship, expect delays, when G5 powerbooks ever ship, expect delays. Otherwise, expect the product to be way less than perfect. (Yes I realize sometimes things are not perfect, like my G5 2.0)
