MacAmp 2.0 has improved desktop broadcasting

updated 04:30 am EST, Tue January 23, 2001

Subband Software today released MacAmp 2.0, a major revision to its application previously known as AMP Radio. The new version features enhanced MP3 broadcasting capabilities, an tracker, support for the Ogg Vorbis format, and more. Additionally, a revamped playlist improves the $15 shareware application's ability to function as a stand alone MP3 player.

    macamp == old

    macamp has been around for a long time. The original one changed its name to macast (known mostly as Macass, since it was lame) this is not the first time this product name has been used.

    Smooth

    Just when we hear that WinAMP will be re-ported to Mac somebody goes and jumps on the name. Way to capitalize on customer confusion to move your software. Now Nullsoft will have to call their product something stupid like AmpRadio!

    Uhhh...no

    Mac Amp has been arround longer then WInamp. The orginal MacAmp had to change its name becuase the head programer left and with it he took the name. He created Amp Radio and thus could legally name it MacAmp.

    Didn't they learn?

    What's up with those analog-style controls for volume, treble, and bass? Didn't Subband hear that Apple was FLAMED for that volume k***? They're so annoying to control...

    Your loss

    As a long time Audion user, I have to say, anyone that skips this release based on MacAmp's last efforts is missing out - so far it appears to be a fast, reliable player. I'm definitely impressed.

    Macamp was not out first

    WinAmp was out way before MacAmp. Infact, WinAmp was cool right when it came out because it had skins, when the first Version of MacAmp came out, it didn't. And it was almost 4 months later.

    Why would we want a stupid port of a Windows CrapAmp? That player sucks.
