Let me first say that I am not religious at all and never have been.

Muslims are not evil. That's ridiculous - it's like saying 'people with red hair are evil'. There are evil people out there in ALL religions, but no religion tells people to be evil. Islam is a really nice religion if you actually bothered to look into it, rather than watching the news and saying 'wow, look at all those muslims killing people with bombs! It's about being a minority, it could apply to Hindus, Jews, Buddhists, or any non-Christian faith in America just as equally as it would for Islam. This article is probably more aimed at muslims. Being a muslim, it makes a lot more sense to me (especially concerning the extreme prejudicial if not irrelevant comments made here). MacNN links to articles on Macs (as well as some general tech stuff). Just because they also mention Islam, why is that a reason to go off? Macs and cheese. Ok. Macs and rocks. Ok. Macs and airplanes. Ok. Macs and Islam...What?!
And keep in mind, this article was written in San Francisco, which is a mecca of technology (no pun intended), and also has a large muslim population (the Zaytuna Institute being near the area as well).

If you don't see the point of this article, perhaps you are not part of its target audience (and you're not).

If there's a problem here it's how the article trivializes the challenge of being a Muslim in post-9/11 America. Just look at the crazy things people have posted here about Muslims cutting off heads, being insane murderers, etc. They're also your coworkers, neighbors, friends, colleagues, teachers, and other plenty of fine roles in the world. To equate the experience of a large group of people facing a serious backlash of fear and hatred in this country, or for that matter, as this article does, to subordinate that experience to something as (ultimately) trivial and silly as computer platform choice is just plain tragic.

2. Christians have caused far more trouble than Muslims through history. (partly because there are more of them, partly because Christianity is a far more intolerant religion by nature. Muslims don't say "Convert or Die." Christians do. 4. Yes they have been slaves. They have also been treated horribly by europeans once europeans became strong enough to do so.

Of all the commentary on this article I read VERY few that were at all objective. At the top of the bell curve was commentary that SEETHED with a few, "well-chosen" words of prejudice and misunderstanding. Regardless of your social and political biases, and ignoring your (quite a few of you) unreasoned and unresearched opinions, the author was only making a simple comparison/analogy.

Of course there are lots of ways you can suggest that the comparison is invalid, especially if you can't check your rather embarassing biases. The point is that there is prejudice, correct or not.

Fine, you don't feel you should be prejudiced against as a mac user because you didn't do anything. That's all perfectly understandable. But what if a few hundred mac users rose up, called themselves the "Mac Jyhad" or something, and smashed PCs in computer labs, or released PC viruses like Blaster and Sasser, or even something less innocuous?

If all your PC choosing friends suddenly started treating you like a jerk because of some idiot you don't know who happens to have made the same platform choice as you, you'd feel persecuted.

I, and many Muslims, have been under the microscope since well before Sept. 11 and all the wars in lands where the majority of natives are Muslim and I am one of those who feel that its hypocritical of Americans to feel its "okay" and their "American duty" to openly, hatefully, prejudicely and— without a HINT of American honor— vilify and take verbal and physical stabs at Muslims like that numbskull "Deal" who is trying to push a book that portrays Islam in a slanderous light by taking bits and parts of it's texts and meanings thereof and twisting it to mean something that's WRONG and EVIL!

I try my hardest to make peace with EVERYONE in my personal life and, admittedly, there are many who will simply NOT have it. So be it... but it is SO frustrating to be seen in such a dim light by my fellow men and women of whose views I respect because it is their choice. For my part you will NEVER find a Muslim saying about Jesus (peace and blessings upon him!) what many Christians feel free to say about Muhammad (peace and blessings upon him!).

The underlying principles of the koran do encourage love and understanding, just like the bible, but there are some points that are taken to extremes. Just like Paul (formerly Saul) in the bible clearly says that no woman should ever be in position of authority over a woman, yet this position is widely recognised as outrageous by christians. It's hot-heads who go around killing people, and it's hot-heads who go around bashing authors for a comparison which, IN THAT PARTICULAR CONTEXT, was not wholly unjustified.

As for the article, chill people. It's about how one, as a member of a minority, feel that it's membership in a minority is perceived by a majority. But then again, I understand that Americans can't see the point.

You have got to be kidding. The Koran tell people to kill others... When was the last time you read the bible? Or the writings of countless numbers of christians who have slaughtered huge numbers of "non-believers" solely because they wouldn't convert? Compare the spread of Christianity by the sword to that of Islam.

Christianity: "Convert or die."
Islam: "Convert or pay us taxes."

This may seem flippant, but it is a fundamental difference during the expansion years of both religions. Christians massacred countless thousands of "Pagans" in countless wars of religious conquest, solely because they would not convert. The Arab conquest by comparison was far more tolerant, and in general, gave those being conquered the obligation to pay taxes and tribute, unless they converted. If they did not convert, they were not killed.

Read a little history.

Oh yeah, and sorry to bring it up again, but the old testament passage about Joshua and the conquest of the promised land applauded the slaughter of all those who stood in his way, and actually admonished the leadership for allowing the two people who helped them survive. Why? Because they lived there and weren't Isrealites.

Read a little religion.

the comparison isn't between islam and apple computers, it's between 'american muslims' and mac users. Both minority groups, both being the object of prejudice because of their choice, and both facing difficulty in integration within society in the context of this particular choice. There is NOTHING either stated or implied in the article about suicide bombers, jihad righteousness or any kind of profession that the two shouldn't for any reason not fit into their context. If you answer those questions honestly you end up with opposite answers which you can try to explain any way you want to. The truth is Jesus. Jesus has an adversary who is opposite him and he goes around like a roaring lion. If you haven't seen the roaring lion, it's probably because he has deceived you and you don't see him for what he is.

The same people who can CLEARLY see in The Bible that pork is forbidden and love their bacon and pork chops make a prophet a God by conjecture... never made sense to me... one of the many reasons Islam's the fastest growing religions... :) I was once Christian, I realize most Christians that "know" about Islam are really talking out of ignorance... well, just like you! Go ahead, swear to God and tell me you read The Qur'an... I dare you. Yeah, didn't think so. I love how there are so MANY Christians who just KNOW they're going to be saved... like they KNOW God's decision before it is made... blasphemy upon blasphemy! Who made contructive comments. When I first read this article I did have the "what the h*** is this about?" thought in my head. I refrained myself from making that comment until I read all 8 pages of the comments.

I'll admit, it was a little difficult to grasp the concept of comparing Mac users to the Muslim religion, but I do have an understading of the article now.

I'm glad not everyone jumped at the first chance to comment about 'bombings' and 'killings'.

You must never have really been a Christian to have misunderstood so badly. Did you read any of the new testament?

Jesus changed many rules of the old testament when he returned. Don't you know it is not what goes into a man that defiles him, it is what comes out. What goes in passes through, what comes out is from the heart.

I also previously did not believe in the trinitarian idea and I still believe it is misconstrued by churches (not the Bible). But, Jesus is Gods Son and nobody will question that. He came from Jehovah, the Father. The problem is King Constantine who ruled the 4th century AD kind of messed things up when he combined Mithra (pagan sun worshipers) with Christianity and also Estre (pagan goddess of fertility) and hence we ended up with Christmas and Easter instead of celebrating the Passover as it should have been.

If you are a true Christian, it is very easy to see through all of that. It is much easier to see that muslims are not treated bad here and I do not say anything bad about any individual. I do know that Christians are treated bad in all muslim countries. A missionary I met that teaches good news in Turkey said that one of her newer converts was beaten into a coma for passing out literature. This by the way was not against the law there. You are not supposed to hand out Christian literature there. How does that compare to Michigan where a mosk is blurting out prayers on a loud speaker in an urban neighborhood? I know my savior can here me if I speak quietly in my head. Why does this mosk need a loud speaker?

Why can't my son pray in school here, yet there are public schools in California allowing muslim children to go to a special room to pray during the regular school day.

Why do they recommend against non-Muslims from being in public on Fridays in Iran? Because in Iran they teach from the Koran (all of it, not just the good parts). It is much more likely a non-muslim will get attacked on a Friday (Muslims day of worship). Why does the Christian church have to be underground there? In Turkey, why can't Christian churches get permits to teach in permanent buildings?

Does the Koran really make sense to you? Have you really read it?

Why did Mohammed tell the story of Moses and the Pharoe six times? Why did he also include a Jewish fairy tail about a mountain being thrown down onto disbelievers? This is a fairy tail, but he didn't know that because he couldn't read or write. He heard Jewish elders tell of it when he was young and thought it was in the Old Testament. However, he claims Gabriel told him these things.
