AirPort Extreme connection errors plaguing users

Dozens of readers are continuing to report AirPort Extreme connection issues in Apple's discussion forums--high CPU load or high traffic or as one reader notes large amounts of memory: "There is a problem with Airport extreme on new PowerBooks with more than 1GB of RAM installed. the airport will lose its connection to the basestation and won't work again until the machine is rebooted. it happens regardless of basestation (Apple, Linksys, Cisco) and with known-to-be-good AirPort Extreme cards."

I called Apple about this long time ago and they had no clue about it.
It happens on my dual PowerMac G4 (FW800) too.

Same Trouble...

I've been having the same trouble with two Asanté wireless routers (FR3002AL, FR1004AL), an iBook G4 800 (AirPort Extreme) and a Titanium PowerBook 1Ghz w/standard AirPort.

Log out, restart the router, reboot. Sometimes each works, sometimes not. I try them all. I've even reset the router to factory settings a few times in hope of solving the mystery. Or I've just given up and pulled out an ethernet cable. My girlfriend, who's a recent switcher, is NOT amused by the fact that her new iBook STOPPED working seamlessly..

I'm able to connect to various neighbors' wireless routers... I can see 4 to 8 connections depending on time of day!

It's maddening!

Quite frustrating indeed. Some small consolation to know that it is not just me. I have a PowerMac G4 MDD dual 1.25 GHz, 1.25GB RAM. Original ("graphite") AirPort. Two other Macs on the network (both much farther from the base station) work flawlessly. Same OS version on all (10.3 now; have had problem since 10.1). Latest AirPort client software installed. Base station set to its default software revision. I was seriously thinking of replacing the base station until I saw this article. Maybe I'll just chuck the thing, run my G4 hard-wired and create an ad-hoc AP network from it for the other two computers to share.

My only complaint with this computer, too. I use my computer for business, so I just bought a D-Link wireless "bridge" device and turned off internal AirPort.

My new 12" PB 1.33Ghz with 1.25GB RAM does the same thing. Only seems to do it during high network load like downloading large files. Casual browsing for the most part causes no problems. I thought it was my cheap router (Belkin) but a new airport extreme basestation produced the same issues.

Yup. Same problems here. It will even drop a connection in teh same room as the base station. I've got a PBG4 12" 867 with 640MB RAM. It's been happening since the latest Airport updates. And I even rarely get a full signal in teh same room as the base station... even with the most current 3.4.1 update. Oh well.
