Selling music on the iTMS

Higgs Communications has published a detailed . Targeted at independent record labels, the $20 guide covers every step in the process, from contacting Apple to encoding and submitting music to the store. It also highlights the requirements for getting music into the iTunes Music Store as well as the pitfalls of the process.

Hmmm

Would love to comment on the guide, but I'm not paying $20, especially not without a preview. It seems to me that the price is rather silly. It seems to me that if I were an artist, I would probably just give a fellow artist that's already on iTMS a call. I find it unlikely that you wouldn't be able to find this information just surfing around the net a bit looking for music messageboards or FAQs.

It is my understanding it is a book. true not having a preview or it being in B&N isn't wise but you pay for the ease of reference on your desk or bookshelf.

You could ask a friend how to better use Final Cut Pro and even spend quite a bit of time searching the web or you could buy a book and have it all in front of you for quicker access and ease.

True what you said. But I guess my point is, does this really require a whole book to understand? Is the process THAT complicated?

IMHO, it's apple that should really have a free online guide to how to sign up to iTMS. If a 3rd party wants to charge for a "tips and tricks" guide, then I guess that's ok. There are people that sell guides to eBay and Google placement, so it's not unheard of. I just read this, and said to myself "gee, that kind of sucks to have to pay $20 just to figure out how to submit to iTMS". Sounds like this is an area that apple needs improving.

it could be that apple needs to make information on submitting to iTMS a little more open... but wait, what's this?

this is a *top secret* report... ;P

i think they're trying more to market the "us vs. them" approach with tips on working the system, rather than helping people into a healthy relationship with apple. no, i didn't pay the $20 to find that out; just going by their marketing pitch.

if we are to believe Higgs, Apple is a company that will cause you pain and eat up a lot of time. frankly, i don't know.

might be a good deal, though. after all, they are keeping it down to 1 spelling error per 1 page of text, going by their web page.

no, no really – i can't talk. i haven't seen the report. just being critical for criticism's sake. =P

Wait, so its a waste to spend money on something you can find out yourself? So does that mean there's millions of idiots out there who spent money on seeing movies like (a) the Passion, (b) Titanic, and (c) Lord of the Rings? I mean, you know what happens in all three. h***, you could just ask your friends who saw LOTR about the movie, and save yourself 10 bucks (plus another 10 for soda and popcorn).

[BTW, the answer to the question is of course, yes, they are idiots for spending money to see that c***. ]
