CDMA modem card in the works

updated 09:13 am EST, Fri January 19, 2001

Qualcomm and Matsushita today announced that they have agreed to terms that will allow Matsushita to build modem cards that utilize Qualcomm's CDMA wireless technology. CDMA, the predominant technology used by mobile phones in the United States, would allow devices to connect to the Internet wirelessly, without the need for a mobile phone. It's unclear at this point for which devices this technology will be developed, though conceivably laptops will be among the first to gain the technology.

    This is just the start...

If you really want to know where CDMA (and the bandwidth revolution) will take us, read the book Telecosm by George Gilder. It's a bit melodramatic, but the principals and ideas are remarkable.
