Apple PowerBook trade-in ends Friday

Apple's PowerBook G4 trade-in program ends this Friday, March 26th. The deal offers customers the option to trade in their PowerBook G4 laptops for credit toward the purchase of a new 15-inch or 17-inch notebook. The program was announced late last year, and provides a $700 credit for all qualifying units. Those wishing to take advantage of the offer must call AppleCare directly at 800-275-2273.

I traded in my TiBook 500 that had a bunch of dead pixels, but without any damage or abuse, and am typing this message on the 1.25 GHz SuperDrive 15" that I got back. The going rate on eBay for my PowerBook would have been significantly less than $700, so it was well worth it.

How do I get information on a trade in? We've got three powerbooks here that we're thinking about renewing and would be much more willing to do so if we could get some cash back on them.

Also, is this only available in the States? We're in the UK

call Applecare. ( not sure what the # is in the UK or just call ther US #) when you get someone one the line just ask them about the program. I got my 17" 1.33
about a month ago I upgraded from a 15" 500 Gen 1 Tibook. The monitor was starting to go. So it was a no brainer.

Interesting how/whether this endeavor will help Apple's bottom line - I suppose they get to count the $700 discount as an expense; they can then either donate the turned-in units to schools (the ones that won't turn their noses up at them) and claim another deduction that way... or, replenish their supply of parts to sell refurbished to the ones that remain in use, over time.
