Security firm uncovers QuickTime vulnerabilities

QuickTime vulnerabilities


Security firm eEye Digital Security claims to have discovered and in various IBM personal computers which could lead to remote compromise of systems. Particulars of the vulnerabilities have not been released in keeping with eEye's policy of informing a vendor about a bug and then waiting until a patch is ready before releasing details. IBM was informed 13 days ago and Apple 11 days ago. "A vulnerability in default installations of the affected software [...] allows malicious code to be executed with little user interaction."

    Why is this limited to IBM computers and not all Wintel computers? Did Apple make a special version for IBM?

    More worried about

    the 3 major security risks that MS hasn´t been able to patch som 150+days after their discovery. I am writing this from a Windows 2000 computer at work.

    More significant

    I think the more significant note in this article (not the MacNN one) is that there has been a level one bug reported to MS that has been waiting for a fix for 147 days. Almost 5 months, and still no fix from Microslop. Wow, what a surprise! Yeah, I can see how seriously MS takes security.
