Over 1500 in line for Apple Store SF opening

Apple Store SF opens

Apple today openend its "hometown" Apple Store San Francisco. Over 1500 people were in line as of the opening--more than a dozen of whom camped out overnight. The store opened about fifteen minutes late--reportedly for waiting for the arrival of Apple CEO Steve Jobs who "was stuck in traffic", according to security officials. Ex-San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown performed the official ribbon cutting ceremony. MacNN was on hand, offering free food to those in line. Only 1500 people? h***, there's that many g** people getting married in san francisco. The whole ares has several million residents, and all Apple can muster is 1500 people? Gateway stores get that much when they're closed...

Why, not a day goes by where I don't hear about the closing of yet another Apple Store, due to the horrible, horrible failure of the Apple Stores in general. Mark my words, Apple may continue to open more stores that are instant failures, but one day, they will wake up and realize that they are simply doomed by continuing to do this.

I just came from the San Francisco opening and the bag contains:

There is no iSight or Panther as previously speculated.

the point is...

it's not the value that "c***" was trying to make... it's that the stuff in there is "c***" and full of things that you probaby wouldn't buy in the first place...

keynote POS is barely worth $99 at this point... when you can get full featured office suite for less than that... and that apple is not even going to continue updating it.

Apple will continue to update keynote... and from what I hear apple stores are doing just fine. Apple didn't build these stores as major reveune sources.. they did it to improve the brand image and allow people to get exposed to the many thing we take for granted on our sweet machines...

Which 802.11x product out there offers USB connection on the base station? NONE other than Apple's base station.

Sure, Netgear's 802.11g is $50 after rebate, but you must have a network laser or network color inkjet in order to network it _without_ connecting it to a "server" computer.

I love our wireless...

Our family loves our wireless keyboard. The desks neater too. The touch on the keys is very nice. Plus the way the keyboard is designed, it is better at preventing damage when spills happen on it.

We will get a wireless mouse within the next 6-8 months.

wow

wow, some people have anger issues...

The bluetooth keyboard and mice and great products that at least one person wound up getting in their bag. It doesn't mean that all bags got the same things; as one person got an iPod in theirs. Anyone who's ever used a bluetooth mouse verses an IR mouse knows how much more reliable the connection is.

Keynote is by far the best presentation program I have used. Not because it's Apple's product, but because it's capablities are beyond that of powerpoint. When you give professional presentations for a living, the last thing you want to show someone is the same old powerpoint presentation they're used to. Keynote allows me to create a presentation that is similiar to powerpoint, yet more professional and creative.

Also, what did people expect would be in the lucky bags??? Can't you find something better to b**** about?

After more than a decade of fiddling around, M$ hasn't figured out auto guides or grids, which Apple has used first time out.

Go back to using your f*****' "Word Art" or whatever f*** M$ pushes. Microsoft has done irreparable damage to the design world, and everyone knows it.

Oh my gosh...

What is this...in the video clips, I saw one guy eating a burger with a coke in his hand, and another person was smoking. Some others looked overweight.

I thought Apple users were supposed to be healthy. Instead, the crowd looked like it could be a windoze crowd.

I am so disappointed.

Generally I don't like to agree with all the negative stuff on these discussions, but it is true, the Keynote team was quietly laid off not too long ago... all the engineers and the marketing staff. My buddy was one of them. So, it is probably right that we've seen version 1.0 and only of Keynote.

Nice...

I arrived there some time after 11:00am. By then, the line had dwindled to about a block and a half and was moving at a pretty good pace. I bought the book "Killer Tips" by Scott Kelby and got a free t-shirt (packed in a small box). I have some pictures posted in the "photos" section of the Silicon Valley Macintosh User Group's website (www.svmug.org).

As for the negative posts, I can only picture a smiley that holds a sign that says "Don't feed the trolls."

Promote Health...

I saw the same things in those videos...the guy eating a burger and another guy smoking. This is not a good image for Apple.

Apple needs to start promoting healthy lifestyles, especially to the MS switchers who are likely the ones who smoke, eat meat, and even drive world-killing SUVs.

Apple should get the message out to these former MS users that Apple users are healthy - they eat vegetarian diets and don't smoke and , don't use up the world's ol supply and pollute the planet by driving SUVs and large cars.

Yeah, nothing stinks more than seeing someone walk out of an Apple store with a full shopping bag and then proceed to light up a cigarette. I feel like yelling to these people "Dude - you're an Apple user. We don't smoke, so stop spreading your second-hand smoke around causing others like me to get lung cancer."

Not sure I agree with the no meat thing, though. Perhaps I am biased because I occasionally eat some chicken and fish.

In addition to being a troll, and probably (a really poor) student who can get Office for $99, the poster who dissed Keynote really doesn't know what he/sh eis talking about. If you professional life requires using Powerpoint to give presentations, you do have serious anger issues --- with Micro$oft. Th esoftware breaks so many ways, on both Windoze and Mac, it's unbelievable (or would be, if it weren't produced by.... M$).

Keynote has proven to be rock solid. I would never use Powerpoint for a presentation again.

Sorry, but our current Dictato as you call him won legit as the Presidency has never been won on popular vote but on the Electoral College. Also every after election recount that was done sponsored by all kids of liberal publications showed that, Bush won the popular vote. Go figure. Might not agree with some of the Patriot Act but I sure haven't heard, from the liberal media, of thousands being rounded up and imprisoned. Got any good links to prove it?

Bush won the ellections by winning more states but getting less votes. Also, it's not the actual count that people are fighting over, but the rather less than fair system that Bush forced in some states, and particularly Florida, to get rid of a large base of voters that would have been supportive of Gore (Blacks, Latinos, poor people...). So yes, the current World Dictator stole the election as is pretty likely to do so again with his less than reliable eVoting system.
