Apple posts Safari 1.2 with improved Java, security

Apple today released Safari 1.2, which "improves compatibility with websites and web applications by providing increased support for standards, adds support for personal certificate authentication, and works with Java 1.4.2 to enable websites that rely on LiveConnect for communication between JavaScript and Java applets. This update also provides improved application stability, full keyboard access for navigating web pages, and the ability to resume interrupted downloads." It is available via the Software Update in Mac OS X 10.3 or later. Update: Not (yet?) available for Mac OS X 10.2 users.

Rock on! I did some development for a Java applet that required LiveConnect (not my design). I had to work in Virtual PC, which was slow at best. Not only will this make my development easier, but it'll open up many new Java applets to Mac OS X users.

Good work, Apple! (Now, what took you so long?)

Apple site and software update only provides Safari 10.2 for OSX 10.3. You're SOL if you have a computer a couple of months old running 10.2.8

You're wrong. Just go to the following URL and Safari 1.2 is downloadable for both 10.2 and 10.3. So what if its not available for you on Software Update just yet.

And it works on Panther AND Jaguar, so it will work with your old school 10.2.8 system. Learn to read!

Still hangs with Citibank's online banking. Still doesn't handle some complex Java stuff that Mozilla's Firebird beta handles flawlessly. Still loads Apple's own secure Webmail page half as fast as Mozilla's Firebird and Camino browsers. Still won't let me personalize my History settings or manage cookies for individual websites. Not much of anything I had hoped to see, but maybe I'm missing some cool stuff under the 'hood?
