Apple earnings due today

updated 09:00 am EST, Wed January 17, 2001

Apple will report its first quarter earnings for fiscal 2001 today after the market closes. A conference call with investors and analysts will take place at 5 PM EST and will be available to the public via a live audio stream. In early December Apple issued its second consecutive earnings warning and announced that it expects to post a loss of $225-$250 million for the quarter on revenue of $1 billion, down from an initial estimate of $1.6 billion. Still, some analysts expect Jobs' outlook on the future may not be as positive as it was after the warning was issued.

Naysayers be damned. Apple is a fine company with excellent products. I'm excited about their future and fully expect to be purchasing Apple products for years to come.

Everybody is so quick to get back on the Apple Death Train, pour me a martini, and shut the *uck up.

I have to agree. However, in not such harsh language.

Apple has a fan base that will never die. As long as we're around, Apple will be around. Give me OS X (and the RAM I'm getting today) and I'll be extremely happy.

i agree also. i am very disappointed that even people
who claimed to be mac fans continue to see only the bad
things in everything apple does. probably they should get themselfes a windoze machine for a reality check.
anyhow. we will see what will come.

CNet proposes an intertiew with an analyst. The journalist asking the questions is clueless. And the analyst is even more so: he compares Apple to Osborne, even though he must admit that Apple probably won't close its doors. Listening to such nonsense is really annoying.

    ...some analysts expect...

sigh. they have all the answers, yet don't do anything other than a lot of word processing (and some conference calling, I suspect).

who pays these people? can somebody give them a broom so they can make themselves useful? can we please stop quoting their ignorance?

the whole stock market is manically depressed, mostly because the truth is in constant disagreement with "analyst expectations". i have more respect for (and faith in) the weather man than any wall street analyst.

I've been a Mac lover & Apple hater since 1984. I love the Mac but I truly hate Apple as a company, and I especially hate Steve Jobs.

I'd love to see Apple go out of business but for someone else to continue to support and develop the Mac, without any involvement by Steve Jobs.

Yep. Apple's almost always getting bashed by these clueless "experts". It's been going on since (at least) 1984. Port Mac OS X to intel, ect, ect... These people don't seem to have a clue or care about what makes Apple and the Mac special. It seems to be "cool" to bash Apple.

We know better. Now- when Apple makes mistakes we have to call them and complain, but like one poster stated, those people who only see the bad should really relax or switch platforms.

And I also agree as long as we're around- and Apple is still trying- Apple's still gonna be around.

All I can say is look where the article is coming from Cnet . What else can you expect from a site that's on Intel's leash? Ever since Apple's warning in Oct. they have posted article after article with some anaylst saying " well it doesn't look good " or " Steve Jobs is certainly going to have to pull a rabbit out of his hat this time ". If Apple miraculously posted a gain today they would still put a negative spin on it. If you want an example just go to their article about iDVD and Apple's DVD burner. After reading such a biased piece of **** last night myself and several others were furious. It's this kind slanted journalism that helps promote the impression that Apple is sinking. Which after all is it's intended purpose.
