They're clearing out a nice retail space right on the drag. A friend of mine always said it would make an ideal spot for an Apple Store. I agree, UT has always been very Mac friendly place and the drag is a really high traffic area.

Still, it probably will go in Barton Creek considering the new Nordstrom and Apple's history of placing itself in snazzier retail spaces. In any case, this is great news!

Snazzier would be the upscale Aboretum Mall area.

... the CompUSA across 183 used to be the highest volume Apple dealer in the CompUSA system. That may have changed in the last couple of years however.

Barton Creek Mall is not a bad location. Certainly better parking than the Arboretum proper. It is closer to UT even if traffic up and down MOPAC can be a killer.

I am excited to see the store finally making its way to Austin. Dellites need a little enlightenment.

Barton Creek is a bit far from things, but then again so are all of the major retail centers, since they are all out in the 'burbs. (I'm in Leander, so the Arboretum would have been far more convenient for me, but that's just me.) Better than having to trek to Houston or Dallas.

Austin has indeed long been Mac-friendly, and UT in particular (this coming from the lone Mac fan in UT's Windows Enterprise Support group). This is long overdue.

While I am glad Austin is finally getting an Apple Store, Barton Creek is a terrible location. It's a very inconvienent place to get to, so the store will ONLY get foot traffic...it will miss out on dedicated Mac users who won't bother with the trip when CompUSA is closer and easier. Arg!

Depends on where you live

Y'all who are complaining that Barton Creek Square is too far from everything are showing a typical bias against those of us who live in southwest Austin. I almost never go to the Arboretum, 183 or the Highland Mall area. Thus, I'd almost never go to an Apple Store located there. Just like I never go to Fry's way up north. What an inconvenient location! However, an Apple Store in MY part of town -- that's a different story! Besides, BCS is looking pretty dapper these days, with Nordstrom, et al. Thank you, Apple!

I get tired of that same old North Austin bias. If you listen to those people it seems no one at all lives south of the river. I've been to all the malls and stores mentioned above and they all have drawbacks. BCS is no different. And you know what? North Austin (including Leander) is just burbs too. And if BCS is so bad why in the world would Nordstrom's have gone in there? They are considered to be a savvy and respected retailer.

So the store is at BCS. Who cares? Come on down and shop there if you want the experience of an Apple Store or if you want to support Apple directly. But don't whine about it's location please.
