Dell stop selling iPod

The Austin American-Statesman reports that Dell Inc. in mid-November, about two weeks after the company launched its own competing MP3 player and says it has no plans to resume sales of the No. 1 MP3 player. The article notes that both Apple and Dell declined to explain why the two companies scrapped their reselling agreement, however, it speculates that Apple's pricing policies may have conflicted with Dell aggressive discounting and promotions.

    Well, DUH

Why would they continue to sell the iPod once the DJ started shipping?

    Why even speculate?

As the previous comment suggested, they obviously stopped selling iPods because they have their own competitive product.

    Yeah Macnn, that's it...

It couldn't possibly be that it was outselling their own c***--in their own store!

    $$$

They'd continue to sell it if they thought they could make money out of it - afterall it's about what the customer wants.

If the customer wants a (superior) iPod, and Dell is licensed to sell it to them, and there's money in it, why wouldn't Dell want to sell it to them?

Not everyone is going to settle for a Dell DJ, and so to Dell that could be lost $$$.

It's the same reason Apple sells Adobe software.

    I find it stupid that...

    Dell did this: http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/category.aspx/dj?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

They "compare" the Dell DJ to the iPod. One of the things they put was "Not available for sale at Dell.com"..

    WHO'S FAULT IS THAT??!!

Gawd Dell, it's like Apple prevented Dell from selling it.

    well, now it's personal.

some days i find it hilarious. other days, i find it stupid. but steve and michael keep shooting zingers at each other through the press, and these two just sincerely DO NOT LIKE EACH OTHER. unless the ipod was selling with an enormous profit back to dell (which we know can't happen as apple sets those prices so they're the same price everywhere, sans coupons), dell would axe the ipod out of spite eventually.

They're not comparing that they don't sell it, they're just telling you this, because they have "Buy it here" buttons on the other two.

By the way, the dell DJ is 2 ounces heaver than the iPod, and slightly bigger.

The DJ is 50% larger than the iPod in volume, I would say that is more than slightly bigger.

    Business Model?

Everyone's business model? Customer base is PC only. Sells iPods when iTunes is Mac only. Stops selling iPods when iTunes is also for PC. Duh.
