Apple MPEG-2 updated

A MacNN reader reports that Apple has quietly patched the that we reported on Monday. Users must login to the Apple Store and visit the software download purchases section to download the updated Component. Versions are available for QuickTime 6.3 and QuickTime 6.4 (in the same download).

    Hassle

I'd prefer a tiny patcher. Anyone care to do a binary comparison and make one? I'm sure we're talking about one or a few bytes here.

Apple should provide a small updater through the Software Update mechanism.

    What about FCP?

What about those who have MPEG2 playback through the purchase of FCP? It doesn't show in the download purchases section... :(

    Why can't this

be an automatic update? They've done automatic updates of the MPEG2 plug-in before. Having to go through this is a pain in the butt.
