Columnist anticipates table

PBS columnist Robert Cringely says there is an , and such a device might "finally be that link between your PC and TV." Cringely suggests that Apple create a tablet geared toward graphics designers: "They will become must-have gizmos in graphics departments everywhere. It's Apple's BMW strategy all over again, and virtually guarantees at least modest success." For Apple to have "more than modest success" it must appeal to more than the professional market: "The tablet PC killer app for the mass market is functioning as a digital hub [...] It's the idea that your computer ought to control your TV and your stereo and your VCR."

This Cringely bloke read some article in a Tawainese newspaper and heard about UWB and some how came up with a longwinded and hard to follow article that is nothing more than a bunch of c***.

This is not the real Robert Cringely, although both are quite g**.

While the real Cringe is at least slightly amusing to read, the fake one is a jelly-anussed dickweed without a scrap of originality.

No one should buy into his obviously misguided thoughts about an Apple tablet PC. It seems quite clear to me that he had Straight Eye on the telly and was fiddling with a chubby when he wrote this s***.

I see a tablet

My laptop already absorbed and replaced my music collection and my home entertainment. While not on the road, it's easy to pipe the audio wireless into my home speaker system.

The display is better than my big TV. I prefer watching TV and DVDs on my laptop and am comfortable sitting close to the screen to watch with others.

I'd prefer a tablet come from Apple, but I don't care who makes it. I wouldn't want it to appear on my TV or need it to remote-control what's left of my home entertainment system (the media tuner). Universal remote controls are a joke, not unlike that digital hubbub, or that article we read.

A tablet should integrate two things from my home entertainment system missing in my laptop - the media tuner and universal flash card slot.

I'd have plenty of use for Wi-Fi. But I wouldn't mind attaching one cable to a tablet in order to watch a program. I'd prefer to charge it with a cable insead of a huge dock connector.

A tablet should replace what's left of my home entertainment system, and my laptop and keyboard as well.

Rather than just a drawing tablet or handwriting, I'd prefer a touch-screen keyboard. I wouldn't need it while watching a program full screen. Current large laptop screen sizes almost leave room enough for keys to be part of the GUI. No trackpad needed.

The trick is to put the touchscreen, unhinged, into the CPU box with a Superdrive, media (Cable/Satellite) modem, and a few slots and ports.

When I want to use a bluetooth input device such as a real keyboard, I'd gain more GUI on screen and could still touch it as needed.

An angled pillow could dock to the tablet in my lap and on the desk, or my head later.

Strapping the whole thing onto a carseat sounds useful. But would you let your kid play with your laptop? I'd let them do the driving first.
