LinuxPPC compatible with PBG4

updated 09:30 am EST, Mon January 15, 2001

LinuxPPC Q 4 is compatible with Apple's new PowerBook G4 Titanium. "The Linux kernel, X Windows and the LinuxPPC Installer all successfully boot from the LinuxPPC 2000 Q4 CD-ROM on the PowerBook G4. It is not known at this time if the internal modem or Ethernet work, but it is unlikely that they will not work."

The double negative in that last sentence really hurts readability.

    Great

Now I no longer want one of these, I NEEEED one of these. I run LinuxPPC on my current Mac and love it. If only there was more software for it.

    why use Linux on this?

Man, putting something as pug-ugly as GNOME or KDE on this machine is like putting a snowplow on a Ferrari.

What is blackbox? Has anyone compared SuSE and LinuxPPC distributions? Is Yellow Dog still in the picture? I want to install on my Firewire Powerbook. (Well, no. I want to install on a new G4 Titanium, but I can't afford it.)

    Titanium Cubed

On the LinuxPPC mailing list, there was a message stating that it looks like the Titanium PB uses same chipset as the Cube. Since there are already drivers for the Cube, the Titanium PB should not take much work to fully support. The reason that they do not know if the modem and ethernet work, is that they only had brief accesss to a MacWorld display unit.

    blackbox defined

blackbox is a window manager for Linux. Yellow dog is pretty much a repackaged LinuxPPC. LinuxPPC works great on the Pismo, I use it all the time.

    Sort and sweet answers :)
