Jobs: Apple could port to Intel, but won't

updated 11:50 pm EST, Wed November 5, 2003

Apple says the latest version of the Mac OS X operating system could easily run on Intel chips, but CEO Steve Jobs said today that the company has . "It's perfectly technically feasible to port Panther to any processor," Jobs said at a meeting with financial analysts. "Right now we don't see a compelling need to switch processor families," Jobs said. "We have all the options in the world, but the PowerPC road map looks very strong."

    Loser!

How could he not want to go to Intel! They've got the GHz won. They've got this great new chipset, Centrino, that brings mobility to the masses, and allows you to connect your laptop from anywhere, even on a diving board. But no! Stubborn Jobs is sticking with his ancient PowerPC roadmap and stop gap measures to try to save face! Look at the VT cluster. It took 1100 Macs to get to 3rd place! Ridiculous!

Gawd that first post was hilarious, but not as much fun as the trollslaying second post :)

    I hope that Bill

reads this...I wonder if he will ever have a good night sleep after today...knowing that Jobs could just show up one day and have OSX ported to Intel hardware...wow, I just hope this is for real now.

    Steve made a threat.

Steve simply made an idle threat.

He's already got the most popular Windows sofware that gives you power over your music (and the music biz).

He's already got the fastest selling DVD title (Pixar).

He did all that in the last month.

It's only a matter of time before people can use Mac OS on a Pentium or PowerPC or whatever. Why not soon?

Should he do it soon, now is the time for him to guage our response.

    I say, go for it.

    Easily run on Intel...

Has anyone even tried to boot up the OS X disc on a PC? Just a thought..h*** if my Sony could run OS 10.3...I'd be happy..

    I have one reason:

the Dell Inspiron 3800 I won about 1.5 years ago - I hate Windows and would be (almost) in heaven if it could run Panther.

I have an iMac, too, running Jaguar, but I have to use either Windoze (where most of my software collection for that laptop runs) or Linux (which I use occasionally).

Steve, just like you ran Nextstep on an IBM when you first came back to Apple, I'd like to run OS X on my Inspiron - it's gonna be awhile before I can afford a new Powerbook (or a used one, for that matter).
