iRecordNow: iSight as a camcorder

updated 12:35 am EST, Fri October 31, 2003

Boinx Software has released ($15), a new utility that allows users to use Apple's iSight Web camera to record video. "The goal of Boinx iRecordNow is to turn your iSight into a digital camcorder that is as easy to use as a real world camcorder," says Florian Albrecht, Software Designer at Boinx Software. The format of the clips and the compression can be determined by choosing one of several predefined settings. The movie clips can then be imported into iMovie or Final Cut Pro for postproduction.

Future for the iPod?

Could this be another function that Apple will add to the iPod in the future? Connect the iSight to the iPod and start recording. Maybe even a future iPod will be able to display video (not to watch, but as a sort of viewfinder)?

While this is a great utility. I feel that Apple should have written an app like this and included it with the iSight.

Can you already do this if you had Final Cut Pro?

Quicktime Broadcaster

Quicktime Broadcaster does this now for free. You need to set the address as: 127.0.0.1 and the Audio port to 5432, and the video port to the same. Works great and I have used it successfully with sound to record movies. Why pay for software when there is a free alternative?
