Tech: AOL must open IM, Internet technologies

Morning tech news: The FCC has approved the merger between AOL and Time Warner, but AOL must open its AIM services to one other provider immediately and a second within 180 days; new research suggests adoption of Internet technologies continues to have a positive impact on the U.S. economy, according to the Center for Research in Electronic Commerce; and Cable & Wireless has unveiled plans for the world's most advanced transatlantic telecom cable, at a cost of up to $1.2 billion, which is designed for carrying Internet and data traffic.
