    kill the all-in-oner

for $800, and they have a match. Why does apple insist that people pay $2500 to get a machine where they can use the monitor they want?

    apple needs to diversify

    Look at your choices:

    1) Cheap computer, non-upgradable
    2) Expensive computer, upgradable

The problem with this scheme is there's no middle ground. If I want a computer that will last, I pretty much have to choose #2. But with that, I typically feel apple is s******* me into it- full well knowing that I will care about upgradablablity, and dicking me into buying the expensive model. Why can't I get:

    3) Cheap computer, upgradable?

The only reason why I think this is not happening is because apple can't beat components on price. Otherwise, they could sell the upgrades directly from apple and make money, while at the same time making a LOT more customers. It's infinately better to put things at a reasonable price and win customers then piss customers off but make your high gross margins.

No NEW macs for me only.

I agree with the previous poster, after being an apple customer since the age of six, I am now 22. I decided to never purchase a new Desktop apple machine. Why you ask?

For the simple reason, They are over priced and I can get the same thing 6 months later used for half the price. This is something I always enjoyed about building people custom tailored pc's. They have a choice.

    E is still for Education

I've seen these in a lot of schools, schools do like the all-in-one design. You don't have to pay $2500 for a computer where you can get any monitor you want, the G5s start at $1699, and there is G4 Tower still available for $1299.

    geesh

Why post here if you're not using/ever going to buy a Mac again? And you can't get the same PC 6 months later for half the price? Overpriced compared to what? Give me examples here or go make your "Yugo" computer already.

    Pricing...

I'm taking a business class this semester at college, just for the background in it..

One thing we're learning in marketing and pricing is that the lower price doesn't always sell..

A company may be able to MAKE the same machine and sell one for $800 and another for $1099...it maybe the exact same machine but statistics shows that the more expensive one will sell better...

Its a perceived value of being a better machine...because its more, its gotta be a better machine.

Auto manufactures do this all the time. Our teacher used an example of a car that a manufacture made that was a luxury car but at a 'economical price'. It didn't sell... The next year they changed the color, changed the shape of the headlights and priced it almost double...and it sold like hotcakes...

Excuse me, but the eMac has been at $799 for quite some time now. The price did not change today.

    Be real

"for $800, and they have a match. Why does apple insist that people pay $2500 to get a machine where they can use the monitor they want?"

Apple does not insist that people pay $2500 to get a Mac without a monitor.

Go to the Apple Store and you can buy a new PowerMac G4 for as low as $1270 or a new PowerMac G5 for as low as $1799. Neither of these PowerMac towers dictate your monitor choice and neither of them costs $2500.

    Stop exaggerating Apple pricing.
