Users can search for information on Google as well as news sites such as the BBC News, MacNN.com. The utility saves recent searches for convenient access and can be configured to search any Internet search site. It is $15 and runs on Mac OS X 10.1 or later.

Looks just like that other search thing, except it runs in the menu bar. It even uses the same default search engines!!

    Very nice!

Great utility! Do yourself a favour and watch the video. I was watching, thinking to myself "it'd be neat if you didn't have to show the search field, and it would appear as soon as you selected something" and lo and behold! There it was!

    Another search utility?

This is just like another utility that has been out for a while. The other one costs half too. $15 is just not going to do it for me for a search utility...I will stick with shadowGoogle.

    Watch the video?

The video there is a horrible example. Services are far superior. Select any text, Services->Nisus Thesaurus. Far more powerful. Google Service is better.

I don't see any use to this program. Services work with all Cocoa apps and store the results in place.

    Searchling

If by "the other one" in "looks just like the other one," that's because they were written by the same person. http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~mthole/searchling/.

    Ambrosia

I wouldn't buy software from this company if my life depended on it. They have a history of promising upgrades to software, stringing their customers along for months, and then abandoning the projects. This goes back as far as when they existed solely on AOL.

Ambrosia used to write nifty little low memory utilities for Macs. Then when they decided they could make more money on games, they abandoned the utilities. Unfortunately, they would continue to tell readers of their sales pages that the new versions were "a few weeks away" or "we are completing work on a new version". It was total c***.

So, my advice, frankly is use software from a company that won't leave old customers hanging when a new OS version comes out.
