Apple and Belkin today introduced new accessories for the iPod, including the ($50), which allows users to record voice notes on your iPod with date/time stamp. It also offers playback via a built-in speaker, your earbud headphones, or a Mac, automatically syncs voice memos to iTunes 4.1, and offers a travel alarm clock.

The new Belkin Media Reader ($100) allows you to directly transfer the images to your iPod via FireWire. It protects the media slots from pocket dust and dirt when not in use with sliding cover, a stow-away Dock Connector Cable, a LED indicator for power and data transfer status. The readers supports Compact Flash (Type 1 and 2), Smart Media, Secure Digital (SD), Memory Stick, and Multi Media Card (MMC) media. It runs on 4 AAA batteries (included) and has a 3-year warranty.

    cool.

The voice recorder is a great start. I'll bet that very soon we'll see a voice recorder with a Line-in port. I'd like to use it for sempi pro audio recording.

    Why Belkin?

While I think Belkin makes above average looking peripherals, these iPod accessories don’t look all that well thought out. I would’ve liked to see Apple-designed accessories. Perhaps 4G iPod will have built-in microphone and media reader (most likely SD/MMC only for size consideration).

What happened to rumored Bluetooth headset support? Not that I would get a Bluetooth headset (I am an audiophile with 320 kbps AACs on my iPod).

    no more wires!!

    Please please.. please...

give us wireless headsets.. bluetooth would be cool, or whatever other technology can work. When not in use, the headphoens can be on the iPod, recharging as neccesary, thus really, you don't lose the headphones... this idea wouuld so rock, I hate wires on headphones.. arrghh!

    Fantastic!

This is great! OK, so it could look better, and I want to see some of this rolled into a future iPod (like just hook a FW or USB cable to the camera to offload the pics and how about a color screen so you can view them). But still, this could save me a lot of trouble when shooting weddings and big events. Now I can offload my CF cards without having to go back and grab the laptop. This is great for pro photographers who shoot digital.
