Apple, a longtime supporter of the DVD-R format, confirmed Monday that it is into Mac OS X with the release of Panther due next week, according to CNET News.com: "Apple is only adding support for backing up data and has not yet added support for the format into its media applications, such as iDVD and iTunes....The company has shipped some machines with Sony-made drives that can write to both the +R and -R standards, but in those cases it turned off the +R capabilities. An Apple representative said that the move came at the request of customers...Apple did not say whether it would add DVD+R support into future versions of its iApps, such as iDVD."

    DVD +R vs -R

Sounds like a new revenue stream. We'll give yo -R capability but only if you are a .MAC subscriber. Oops! Apple probably hasn't thought of that one yet!!!

    Pioneer too

The Pioneer A106 drive in some G5's is also supposed to be capable of reading/writing DVD+R/RW's too, at least on PC's.

    Corporate businesses suck

Why can't they all agree on one standard ? Simply because they want their "standard" to become "the standard". Maybe computing offers more flexibility than other sectors. As far as the Super Audio CD and the Audio DVD go, it's very unlikely to see a trend coming up at this point. Customers are waiting until one of these kills the other first. Unless both systems become interoperable. Yet, it sucks in the first place.

    Hunh?!?!

What customers are asking a company to limit their products? I want my gadgets to be limitless, even if it's about options I don't currently use.... There might be a day when I may need those options. Lame.
