Quicktime keeps kicking, but like in our Company, it's taken off because we've got WMP and Real.
If Apple would only support non-standard standard AVI formats, etc., the user experience would be better as well.
I thought items like QTVR would be expanded but all they've done is added a larger field of view, what about hires zoom ins?
Quicktime 3D also I believe is DEAD, pasting 3d objects to your clipboard, rotating them and adding them to a document in the perspective YOU want was really nice.
Free Quicktime Streaming servers and it still takes second seat to WMP and Real .... what's that say? ... either poorer product, or politics (or both?)
its pretty obvious that you care... lol

That's your company, and apparently their policy. Doesn't mean its useless. Just your IT dept don't want it.

QT can support any format, but the codec developers neeed to write the codec for QT. Apple can't do it all. There's DCMA concerns as well (that's why they rely on Intel to make the Indeo drivers, etc).

Politics. Actually, its business. As in "Hi, we want you to broadcast your stuff in WMP format. Here's $500,000 to pay for all the expense". That's how Real, MS, and Apple get big sites to use their codecs. No pay, no play. QTSS is free, which means you don't pay for it, but you still have to pay for the bandwidth, not to mention the codec usage.
update to "Quicktime 6 Pro"
many mac users complain about the annoying windows message, guess what, the biggest complain of quicktime in windows is the stupid message reminding you to get the pro version. Why don't apple just give us free pro version or stop popping up this annoying message.
Agreed ...
It is annoying and I read somewhere that you can go into upgrade and then stop at a certain point and it will cease the messages from happening .... but if they had a 'don't show this message again' checkbox, there's a LOT of people who'd be happier.
support avi. through divx and 3ivx and ffmpeg. its all there
correction: it's ALMOST there. There's still a few formats (what the h*** is OGM? Christ!) that don't run right, even with the "extra" help from third-parties.
It would be REALLY nice if Apple would approach those third-party people (DivX, ffmpeg et al) and CONSOLIDATE these drivers into a future rev of QT.
Some of these formats are primarily used for pirated movies and p***. This hurts the U.S. economy very badly (especially pirated p***, but also highly sophisticated Hollywood movies like Terminator 3). You evil pirates should be ashamed for yourself!

Just got broadcaster
Both QT Broadcaster & QT Streaming Server are free downloads. I just got an iSight, and they let me stream my video feed to my iChat AV-less friends and co-workers.
And being able to stream playlists of mp3s and mpegs ain't too bad, either!
