Alright.

I have Build 7B80 on my iBook right now and it hauls. I can only hope they fixed a tiny bug with the Terminal. Other than that, I have had NO bugs, glitches, or other problems with the new OS. It actually boots up the Help Center in a few seconds instead of a few MINUTES like in Jag.

I can't WAIT for Panther- the wait and anticipation is just killing me, KILLING ME I tell you!! Oh, I hope it comes out soon. The rumor sites are saying Oct. 24th is the likely ship date, which I believe, since Steve likes to release things on the 24th of a month. PLEASE let it come out soon!

Cynical thought...

They only need to delay the "official" release another couple of weeks so they can extract another $130 out of all the "valued" customers who just finished waiting 2-3 months for their G5 desktops.

Damn straight! Apple is probably going to charge all current G5 owners (let alone people who just bought new powerbooks, imacs, or whatever) full price for the upgrade. Even if 10.2.7 is barely 64-bit aware, and Panther is needed to get any of the real performance out of the G5. But will the early adopters get a 'free' upgrade (and by free I mean 19.95 s&h plus tax, because for some reason Apple charges tax on S&H)? Nope. It'll cost them just like it costs us 1 year Jag users (I've only had jaguar a year and I have to pay another $129 for yet another bug fix release!), just like it'll cost the OS 9 holdouts.

Apple blows. First .Mac. Now this c***!!

(Hey, did I get all the complaints in there? I tried. Hope I didn't miss any.)

I'm waiting this time...

Now that my Mac is a partial moneymaker for me, I can juump on the new OS bandwagon like I use to do. I'll wait til the new year, after a few updates have come out, and all of my software is supported.

OS Update?

10/03, 09:54am reply

They USED to have a policy wherein if you got a piece of hardware within 30 days of a major release of the OS, you got to pay the 23 bucks or so (BTW, most, but not all, states demand that companies pay the state sales tax on shipping). But I can't remember if it was from the date of order or date of delivery (I'd guess order, not delivery).

BUT, I've seen NO official confirmation from Cupertino that they are still following this policy.

I'm hoping that they'll "do the right thing" and offer ALL G5 owners the 20 buck upgrade price.
