"Doesn't this sound like MS is going out of their way to spite the DOJ?"
Why would they need to do that? The DOJ is far weaker and has been conquered by Microsoft. That's like saying MS is going out of their way to spite Netscape. Microsoft can take down any company or organization it wants to, so don't bank your hopes on any opposition.
that is more likely doom to fail than not. It is an extremely competitive market out there.
why would you wait until 2005 for technologies that are available today on mac os x ???
m$ c*** again. just getting consumers ready for the biggest let down in history....
keep your pc...i'll hang on to my mac
Save yourself some time. Don't read the article. Just read this....
Microsoft is expected next month to disclose more details on Longhorn, its planned upgrade to Windows
Easy to figure out. Look at Jaguar and Panther. I'm sure they'll be announcing exciting new features like "Microsoft Simple Networking Configuration", which basically will be ZeroConf (i.e. Rendevous) with the usual MS bad name and a twenty two step wizard to configure it.
, as the company looks to drive demand for the forthcoming operating system;
Ummm, its not supposed to be released until 2005 at the earliest (and more like 2006, if I recall the latest delay correctly). Why are they drumming up demand for it now?
Win2k was the "bet the company" OS.... blah blah blah. It will be interesting to see what the IT types. do with this. If you have to retrain your staff on a new OS/Apps, you may as well move away from Windows and all its headaches. I remember the h*** we went through/are going through with XP - most of our users have reverted to Classic view!
I've said it before - the computer industry is ripe for a mass migration again. We went through it with Lotus 123 to Excel, WordPerfect to Word, Win 3.x to 9x/2k/XP..... Look at those - it was roughly 10 years difference....
Apple, fon't fudge this up - sell the darn computers at cost to get the mindset/marketshare. Make the rest up on training/apps/maintenance. Think of it this way - pay us $1.5k per user for the whole thing- computer, os, apps, training, support. We will eat it up like crazy. Any SANE CIO would love that! Compared to the average $1k corporate desktop + $300 office, $50-100 E-Mail, $50 AV software, $3k/yr in support, etc. Pitch the whole solution and back it up and you will prosper!
all of this is c***
I'm loving all this M$ c***!
They will place a "Side bar" .... oooh, oooh, will it be stuck in the center too... and then in a later upgrade have the ability to be placed on the sides.

Why now? Because Panther is about to ship.
As soon as Panther is available, Microsoft will flood the media with "new and exciting" info about Longhorn. Much of their claims will ultimately be vaporware, but it sound good enough to encourage many Windows users to hang on with Microsoft.
Never heard of it.
