    Let .Mac die...

...a quick death - still bitter about Apple's bait & switch with e-mail - so many free options out there - this surely isn't a 'must have' for mac users...

Nothing like angering your existing loyal customers by taking something away...

I got more than my $50

I wasn't going to renew ... but with the recent discounts, incentives and promotions I am reconsidering. I got more than my $50 worth out of the service in the last year ... and I really didn't use the iDisk or e-mail that much.

Looks like it's gonna be really hard to get that rebate mailed in time...

    Beware!

The promotion really is, "Every NEW Mac needs Dot Mac. Refrub Macs? s**** 'Em!"

I bought a Refurb Mac from the Apple Store in July the day the Final Cut Pro/Express offers were announced. My Refurb PowerBook did not qualify for the $99 Final Cut Express offer nor did it qualify for the $30 Dot Mac rebate.

    Refurbed Macs

And the offer also doesn't cover Macs I find on eBay, Macs I purchase at flea markets or Macs I find by the side of the road.

Why does Apple do this to their most loyal user base, the ones who haven't purchased a new Mac since ever?

How do they expect to spur the sale of new Macs if they keep tying their promotions to the purchase of qa new Mac, but blindly insist that used Macs aren't new?

    Dot Mac

In the past few months "free" software available to Dot Mac subscribers has included Sticky Brain 2, Stuffit Standard, iBlog, Marble Blast, VersionTracker Plus, Gamehouse Solitaire; Dot Mac include Backup and Virex, it includes Jaguar Training, Going Digital with iTunes training, Going Digital with iPhoto training; Dot Mac will now sync Safari bookmarks (sorry Cyberdog users, Dot Mac won't sync the bookmarks from your new StarMax) and amke them avilaible by logging in from any machine...

Yep, there are free services you can cobble together that do some of what Apple offers with Dot Mac.

Then again, I can hoof it cheaper than it cost me to buy my car. This doesn't make my car a bad value, (although it may be.)

I really hope your post is a joke, because it gave me a good laugh. If you'd own a business, you'd run it into the ground....

    I be buyin'

I'm buying a G5. I'm not interested in .mac in any way. I found it minimally useful when it was free, so why should I pay for it?
