    worms

    on my campus this weekend, a worm was responsible for a pair of winxp computers sending literally millions of outgoing spam emails. Even though they both had anti-virus software with the latest definitions...

    Viruses

    I receive between 2 and 8 messages with a patch that's supposed to fix some safety issue in Internet Explorer... for Windows. Nice try ! The message indicates the sender is Microsoft. I know I don't face anything and since I have ADSL it doesn't take long to download all that c*** but still, I have better things to do.

    Re: lying low

    Following the arrests of computer virus and worm creators, writers of other potentially troublesome worms have been lying low;

    Ha! they aren't lying low. If anything, worm creation has dipped because the writers are laughing so hard at the imbeciles that got caught they can't get off the floor. I mean, one guy creates a worm, then decides to log onto the campus computer system with his own user name and password, and spreads it directly. OK, we can see he's not getting very far in life. At the very least he could've stole someone's password, used an open wireless port anywhere, went to an internet cafe, etc, etc, etc. Hacked into some chinese servers and spread it from there. I mean, really. The arrests aren't going to slow anyone down...

    What a name!

    Windows XP Tablet PC.

    Now there's a name for an OS. But remember, make sure you update to the latest service packs. You know, "Windows XP Table PC SP".

    Damage Control Article

    The article about Tablet PCs would appear to be a response to earlier reports (one reported in MacObserver last week) about the disappointing sales of Tablet PCs in the U.S. and Europe. I saw the headline at another web page, and read the article wondering what new sales figures had come out. None, as it turns out. If you read all the way to the bottom of the article, you find that Tablet PC sales for 2003 will be around 1% of laptop sales, or a measly 500,000. They project 20% of laptops by 2007, but give no indication as to what they base that on. It's a fluff piece to help calm the jitters of developers over the really low number of devices sold.
