Afternoon tech news:Electronics firms are pushing a new concept of ," computer security experts said; MacNN reader "Clint" let us know that the "Fire" and "Proteus" instant messaging clients still do not work with Yahoo!'s IM service, following recent changes to the service's protocol.
Clint writes:
"While it was announced some time ago that Yahoo would be changing their log in so third party clients such as Fire and Proteus couldn't use their network after Sep 24 - the developers of each of these program claimed to have worked that out.
Perhaps Yahoo made another change at the last minute, maybe not, but FIRE 32e remains unable to speak to Yahoo or MSN. Proteus 3.02 does seem to be using the latest MSN just fine but it cannot log onto Yahoo either. Both return a message indicating that the username/password combination doesn't match.
It should be noted that Yahoo didn't change their actual communication protocol, because both FIRE and PROTEUS were using the Yahoo network fine after the Sep. 24 deadline. It wasn't until they were logged off the Yahoo network did they become crippled, unable to log back on.
