Group Logic today released , a free upgrade to its file and print sharing product line. With this upgrade, the ExtremeZ-IP File Server now fully supports Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP; the upgrade also delivers a major advancement in the product's print server compatibility with Mac OS X. The system integrates seamlessly with the Mac OS X printing architecture and provides additional printing features, such as Rendezvous support, queue management, detailed job logging, automated PPD downloading, redundancy when used with Windows clusters and support for numerous Windows print services.
Version 3.1 makes locating, configuring and using printers using Mac OS X via TCP/IP as quick and easy as using the Mac OS Classic's Chooser via AppleTalk; it also updates the ExtremeZ-IP File Server for the latest Windows 2003, Windows XP and Mac OS X environments. The File Server upgrade provides password expiration notification to the user based on the Active Directory password polices and greater permissions control--with the flexibility of using either the Mac OS or Windows permissions models.
The ExtremeZ-IP 3.1 upgrade is available immediately at no cost to 3.0 customers with current Maintenance & Support contracts. For customers still running earlier versions of ExtremeZ-IP, the upgrade to 3.1 is available for a fee to customers with current Maintenance & Support contracts.
