Man, how old are you guys who are posting here? FP is sooo old that no one does it anymore. What's next, all your base jokes? Just because Apple is usually behind on the hardware (DDR, ghz barrier, AGP, etc) doesn't mean we should be behind on geek jokes/trends! :)
Annnyway, yes, hope this new version SAMBA makes it into Panther! Ditto with the new version of Apache too!

I believe Apple has broken the GHz barrier.
samba IS included in normal client osx, not just the server version as the article suggests.
go plug your machine into a windows network and turn on 'windows file sharing'; thats samba doing that file sharing.
Of course Apple hsa broken the ghz barrier, added DDR, AGP 8x etc. Only 12-24 months after everyone else!
Samba 3.0 is included with Panther Server. It says so right on Apple's page about it.
when trying to print from 10.2.6 to an hp laserjet connected to a windows xp machine, i get the errors in print center: " cli_connect() failed", followed by "unable to connect to host". In system preferences:sharing:services, the toggle to enable "windows file sharing" will not take, yet i can connect to windows machines, and the firewall says that windows file sharing is on. i have installed ghost script + drivers, and used fink to install samba 2.8.
can anyone suggest a solution?

Now, Go Apple!
I just hope Apple would make use of this, and create a genuine interface to control the service and put a MacOS X Server machine in a ADS or NT4 domain!
oh.. and.. first post ;)
