Fire updates Yahoo IM protocol for compliance

updated 03:25 am EDT, Tue September 23, 2003

", 0, 0);

is the latest version of the multiprotocol instant messaging (IM) client for Mac OS X, offering support for the changes in Yahoo! messaging service, which are set to take place later this week (September 24). The client, however, will not operate on MSN's network after October 15, 2003 and the developers notes that access to the network after that date depends on the open-source community's efforts to reverse engineer the new protocol and MSN's willingness to allow third-party clients.

    Why would MS concentrate on securing their IM product when it is the OS that needs security?

    securing = $

    Securing MSN IM = they want people to pay for it.

    Fire is still the cleanest and best multi-service client. It is still free and has worked perfectly for the past 2 years ... even on Panther. Thanks Epicware/Sourceforge.

    Proteus will

    Luckily Proteus will have MSN functionality after Oct. 15th. Don't believe me - browse the apps forums! There is already an updated plug-in available.

    Yes yes, it's a PC app but it has support? Fire guys should talk to them about it. :) I don't want to start using Proteus, I just like Fire much more.
