Don DeBlasio notes that Sierra Entertainment is no longer producing games for the Mac: "I'm a longtime MacNN reader and player of to fill several Macintosh programming positions, saying that next year it hopes to expand upon its current 60% Mac game marketshare and the 21 Mac titles it expects to ship by the end of the year.)

    Its their own fault

Besides how can there be no mac users when other companies have no trouble in making games for the mac?

Blizzard don't have this trouble (they are the best so far) and if anybody else is jumping onboard then fine i am willing to see what they are going to do. As soon as i get my powerbook (next week hopefully) i'm infact going to buy NWN, Sim City 4, UT2K3. Now if only Bioware would get onboard some more.

    No problem...

Hey, if it's card games you want, Hoyle paled in comparison to the offerings from Freeverse! (http://www.freeverse.com)

Though of course I may be a bit biased.

    Not really news

Sierra technically bailed on the Mac years ago... as a long-time MasterCook user and owner of several Sierra games, I can tell you they really stopped giving a flying f*** about Macs around 1997 (at least, that's when they started admitting it to their customers).

While I liked some of their software, we don't really need a developer that has no love for the platform they write for... that's what Windows is for ;)

    Too bad, so sad

I may be a dinosaur, but I haven't played a Sierra game since King's Quest 6...after that, KQ turned lame, and then the genre pretty much disappeared altogether.

    Sierra one of lamest...

...game companies in recent history. Not supporting or porting to the Mac is just par for the course.

The screwed up Middle Earth Online which is probably gonna make lots of money (granted the new owners aren't supporting Mac either).

Too bad, there is something cool about a game company based in the Sierra foothills. Unfortunately they probably succumbed to small-mindedness years ago and they don't even work their anymore.

Since Sierra is now HQed in Bellevue, WA they should change their name to Cascade or something anyway. Perhaps their proximity to the Beast of the the NW is the reason for their unfortunate stance.

Sierra as we knew it has been dead for years.

    Sierra?

I work next to where Sierra used to be in Bellevue. Had a friend who worked there. Terrible company after it got sold by the original owners (Ken and Roberta). They've done nothing recently but make bad business decisions and release crappy games. They've left a path of formerly-great dev houses in their wake (Dynamix anyone?).

Sierra is a non-player these days, so this isn't even really news.

    So terribly sad..

Sierra had an amazing legacy of incredible games. The Gabriel Knight series, all of the 'Quest' games among others. As late as 1999, we were hearing about 'Star Trek: The Secret of Vulcan Fury". After it was bought out, the predominant mind-set seems to be focused on short-term profit - first-person shooters, card games and the like. Dumping Mac ports is just another example of this.

I mourn the loss of such an incredible contributor to computer gaming in general, and to the Mac in particular.

    *sigh*

    History of c***

Sierra games were always horrible. Kludgy, buggy ports from PC games, usually.

If they manage to produce QUALITY games for the Mac, then they'll be welcome back.

If the churn out the same garbage... then stay AWAY!

    Still ...

... if you're one of the people (or know someone) who plays a lot of Hoyle card games on the Mac (hint: seniors), it might be worth it to write them a letter. If they got 10,000 letters, I'll bet they'd change their tune pretty quick.
