Steve hired him........
Jobs has final approval on all designs (and I'm sure just a bit of influence).
This jounalist is an obvious idiot with his head up his a**..
Hmm, the link is messed up, but hey, that was a great article about Gertrude Ederle. I hadn't heard of her before. Pretty amazing feat, that!

Of course, Jobs designed the iMac. In fact, he invented the Macintosh. No I don't meant the computer, I mean the fruit that lent its name to the computer. What a far-sighted genius!
Ok, idol-worshipping zombies, we all know you would wring the sweat from Steve's underwear and drink it if he would only let you. Try to be more balanced. Yes, give him credit for not squandering talent, it's amazing how many execs and managers s**** up something as basic as that. I don't know if he actually hired Ive, so I'm not sure he gets credit for that. And he does have the last word, as most Chairman/CEOs would. But let the people who actually do the work have some credit! Without people like Woz, Ive, Raskin, Lasseter and others, Jobs goes from rock star billionaire to that guy behind the counter at the corner Seven Eleven who is always talking about how he would do things if he were in charge of things.
Maybe Jobs greatest talent is that he hires the best people for the job. That he has a nose for talent. And among many others, Ive has talent.
... is what good managment is. And inspiring them to be better. And Jobs has done both. Ive is an example. Jobs has credit too. Speaking souly in DESIGN terms, yes, Ive had the designs.
This is sad - just because someone in the industry tries to recognize talent at Apple besides Steve Jobs everyone has to call him an idiot.
If Ives is the same guy who designed the iPod, then I wholeheartedly agree - Steve may pace around saying how insanely great things are, but someone has to make it happen - and that guy deserves a lot of respect in my humble opinion.
Aesthetics are important in everyday life. A lot of people pre-iMac and, unfortunately, even today are not aware that product developers take aesthetics into account all the time. For example, a few job postings I've seen for aerodynamicists for aircraft list aesthetic design ability. The computer industry just seems to a bit slow in this area. A lot of companies are trying, albeit not very hard, but it's a step forward. Apple seems very good at combining form and function and that's another thing that makes me happy to be a Mac user.
