    Break the other hinge...

If only one of your hinges is broken, then you might as well break the other one before sending it in to MacResQ since it's the same price to fix 2 hinges as it is for one. ;-)

    Ouch

    Very very pricey.
Does Applecare cover things like that?
If it does, it's worth getting the apple care.

    Apple repair

I wonder if MacResQ knows that Apple has a flat-rate, out-of-warranty repair program for the PowerBook G4? The cost is a flat $329 (or right around that amount) and it uses the overnight Airborne delivery like the in-warranty repairs use. I used it to repair the screen on a PBG4/500 machine a year ago. You can get to it through the regular repair phone number.

    AppleCare

AppleCare is SO worth it, at least for laptops. The first PowerBook G4s were sold in 2001, so any TiBook would still be covered if its owner was smart enough to buy the coverage.

    Another Repair Company

I went to the Apple Store and they quoted me $1300 for the repair. I then went to http://www.dttservice.com/ and had the repair done for $295. I shipped it to them Fed Ex overnight. They made the repair in a day and they sent it back to me UPS ground.
