    OKAY!

Now I can relax and simply put a 7200rpm drive in my 1ghz TiBook.

The new 15" speed increase seems to be minor. Had Apple kept the Level 3 cache the story would be different. There's certainly no need for me to rush to the Apple Store!

WHY does Apple always take away performance tweaks, like the L3 cache when boosting so many other components?!?!?

That said, I played with the 15" PB at the SoHo store and it's quite bee-U-tee-ful!

    agree

It's probably not an absolute updrade, but FW 800, USB 2.0 are nice little bonuses. Love the new look too.

    bare feats

Once again bare feats displays their complete incompetence when it comes to benchmarking. I love how they test against a 1.3GHz Centrino-based laptop with integrated graphics and then make a baseless blanket statement like:
"I threw in the Cetrino 1.3GHz numbers for a reality check. As you can see, it's faster in some ways and slower in others."

Umm no, actually, a Centrino-based laptop with a decent video chipset and 1.7GHz Pentium-M is faster, by far, in every way. It's just plain sad the crippled one they test with beats the pants of the latest Powerbooks in nearly all the non-gaming-video-card benchmarks...

I am with the troll then

I was disappointed to see a Centrino machine, at the same Mhz, beating the G4 (or even coming close) at PS. I have always been under the impresison that G4s are, roughly, equivalent to a Wintel machine at about 50% higher Mhz. I thought this was ESPECIALLY true with PS.

Anyone have any ideas about how that Centrino could have done so well?

    lala land

Well the centrino is their new generation of mobile chip. The mac version is the G5 and will be out in the next update. There is a bit of leapfrogging that does occur in the tech world.

    centrino's suck at games

Ok, don't be touting centrino game performance with a 'decent' video card. They suck at games no matter what you put in it. I configured a Dell D800 lattitude at 1.3 ghz and a new 15" powerbook at 1.25. The Dell was about $150 more expensive. Based on what I've seen, these machines would, on an average of a variety of tests, perform about equally.
