Newsweek: iTunes for Windows due next month
updated 12:25 pm EDT, Mon September 15, 2003
Newsweek reports that Apple expects to next month: "Apple has quietly informed some music insiders that it’s moved up the date for expanding its current Mac-only iTunes for the vast universe of Windows-based PCs to mid-October," as it discusses the recent lawsuits by the record companies against individuals and the future of music: "Technology is creating new markets for music as well. The music giants are banking on an exploding U.S. market for dialing up music on cell phones—in effect, you would use your phone as a portable player. It’s already a multibillion-dollar business in Europe and Japan."

Thank God

Will Apple be able to create enough of a buzz on the PC side to get those cheap folks interested?

Why do I get the feling that it's going to be like the IBM commercial where the new web store gets one hit... then two... then 11... then 1000, then 3,234,562... then... except with enogh bandwidth and class.
Man will that be sweet. Smart people doing something needed, and done well and right.
As was once said by someone who did a lot of cool things with Apple, then some cool things with MS, "You can either build a better mouse trap, or build a medoicre mouse trap and market the h*** out of it."
Here's to better mouse traps!

ok there fanboys, clam down before you cream your pants!
I want to know, since I use both platforms extensively, can I download ITMS on PC in AAC? Can I roundtrip those m4p files seamlessly from PC to Mac to iPod?
Looking forward to it.

I hope iTMS has sufficient capacity to expand to the Windows 'market' - if the take up is similar to that of mac users, they need 30x the bandwidth, though no doubt it won't explode quite as quickly.

I already think that there is a great buzz on the PC side for iTunes. Not only will it bring the easiest solution for downloading Legal music to the PCC side, but they will get the advantages of iTunes as well, things such as finally being able to create playlists on their iPods.
However, I believe that in order to make iTunes the more popular mp3 player, it will eventually have to become skin-able to entice the hot-headed anti-Mac (Apple) PC junkies. Many will not switch players if they know they are going to loose that feature. Maybe this will bring more skin-able functionality back to the Mac.
I do think that this will destroy some of the Mediocre music services out their. I only hope that Apple, and whoever is hosting all of the music, has their servers prepared for the bandwidth hits that they might be getting here very soon. That could make or break the iTMS v. for Windows, and Apple's reputation.
I wouldn't see why you couldn't exchange the music between your Mac and PC, sinc you can already exchange it from Mac to Mac.

As long as the machine has your login name and the privaleges are set correctly, why not? I'm more worried about PC people hacking into the program and stealing the music directly from Apple. THAT could happen.
