Elgato today announced a new version of its EyeTV software at Apple Expo in Paris. The free update, expected later this week, will provide integration with Roxio's Toast 6 Titanium to easily convert EyeTV recorded videos into DVDs and also adds support for the new program guide TVTV by FAST TV Server AG. The USB-based digital video recorder device ($200) allows uses to automatically record any TV program, watch/pause live TV, skip commercials, archive video on to CD/DVD, and convert camcorder, VHS, or any other analog video.

    I don't know..

It's the first video capture device I've ever used that doesn't drop frames like crazy. The on-board commercial editor is really keen. And converting the video, while cumbersome, is no big deal.

Personally, I'm lookng forward to hooking mine up to my G5 (when it ever gets here) and converting an hour's video in about ten minutes (less?).

For the price, EyeTV kicks serious a**.

    not bad

my cable tv doesn't give great picture anyway so it's not like i'm losing out by recording with my eyetv. plus i get unlimited storage, better archiving and no monthly service fee compared to my (now retired) tivo.

    Video output needs work

I have to say, I haven't seen anything but grainy output from EyeTV, and that's from cable tv in one of the largest tv-chains around!

Anybody else see the video sharpness/clarity/quality as lacking and in need of improvement??
