A customer of Apple's iTunes Music Store said he has successfully , ending a weeklong exercise he hoped would highlight the legal and technical nuances of emerging digital music services. He was able to give the song to a friend, whom he met through an Internet discussion group. In order to close the deal, George Hotelling said he had to transfer control of his entire iTunes Music Store account to Elder, which included one song. "For the average user, I'd definitely say this was extremely difficult," he said. "I guess you could say we're both extreme geeks."

    AppleID

This means he probably transfered his AppleID. If I was his new friend, I start charging up his credit card.

    Apple's Position?

What's Apple's position on this? You should totally be able to de-authorize a track for your account and have it authorized on another.

    not elegant

How stupid is apple to do something so awkardly! They are becoming more Microsoft like with every minute passing by! What a bunch of c*** they make users go thru to give/sell a simple song. You'd think they were giving away military secrets with all this rigamaroe.... Apple, rotten to the core!

    oh well

I successfully sold a song today as well. I purchased a David Bowie cassette, and then sold a dubbed copy via the local newspaper. The buyer was fully satisfied.

    Not up to apple...

It's not convoluted because of Apple, it's because of the recording industry, or the sinking ship that is the industry. They hid their head in the sand when digital technologies emerged, finally giving people the freedom to escape their inane taste. People want the freedom and convenience of digital files - we don't need to be tethered to the music industry anymore. Maybe all those executives can go make slurpies or pour lattes down at the local starbucks.
