I wonder if the BuyMusic.com CEO read that press release this morning. I wonder if he remembers telling us all that Steve "picked the wrong platform"?

...for me...

If they offered a true 'high fidelity' format that didn't sound like mush on my horn speakers I'd be all over it...!

AAC's just fine...

The CBR-128 AAC files sound just fine on my pro-grade system with 15" woofers and 2" titanium compression drivers. Even amplified up to 120dB+, I cannot tell the difference between the original in a double blind test.

Either you have "golden" ears or have a psycological bias against compressed formats.

How much profit...

I'm guessing Apple has probably made $8 million since the iTMS opening...in FOUR months. Promote the marketing genius behind that idea.

How many songs have you guys bought off of the iTMS? I've bought 7 songs.

That is because you are listening to music at 120 dB. Your body has an automatic mechanical response that kicks in around 90 dB to prevent you from damaging your ears. But the safety effect is only good to ~110dB for short periods. That response also changes the sensitivity and the frequency response of your ears, so of course you can't hear the difference.

revenue vs profit

Apple may have taken in $8 million in gross revenue, but there is probably very little, if any, net profit.

Apple has sold 10 million tracks; some at 99¢ per track, but many were sold as part of albums and thus much less per track. Apple then has to split the revenue with the record labels. By the time Apple pays for all of the setup, maintenance, and of course advertising, there can not be much left.

I bought Avril Lavigne's (tr: April the Vine) 'Complicated' at 11:34 pm.

I'm the 10,000,000th customer!

I'd like to thank my agent, my manager, my 'posse'...

Considering that this is limited to the 7 million Mac's using OS X, What will it be like when the Windows version of iTunes ships?
