The SD Times has posted a , Apple's upcoming set of developer tools: "Apple is doing wonderful things for programmer productivity.... Xcode is an IDE that appears similar to Visual Studio .NET. It has ample coding and project-management features and a near-infinitely configurable set of switches to condition the way the code is compiled and linked. Like VS.NET, Xcode supports the C, C++, Java and Objective-C general programming languages plus others specific to the operating system, such as AppleScript."

    Unlike VS.NET...

...Which, if you want a commercial license for, you have to sell your children, Xcode is free.

Now we just need Phil Shiller to shave his head, run around all sweaty and scream "Developers!, Developers!, Developers!"

How the h*** is anyone supposed to take Apple seriously if none of the upper management shows any emotion on stage. Why are there so few programs/developers? Because programmers need/want some excitement out of their conferences. They don't want no stinkin' "One more thing". They don't want turtlenecks. They want someone who actually looks like he's glad to be there, and glad that the other people are there.

    They want monkeys!

Nah, not monkeys. Monkeys are throwers. Developers want *toys*! And women of the bikini sort. Possibly even toys to use on the women.

    jEdit

jEdit (http://www.jedit.org) has syntax highlighting for Perl. I've been using it for several years.

    IBM compilers..

His wish has been granted. The IBM xlC and xlF compilers produce code that runs at least 50% faster than gcc 3.3 generated code ( just like another 1Ghz if you have a 2Ghz machine) and sometimes much better. They are very solid for beta products
